pinhole film digital
Seeking to catch the emotional core of a subject in one still shot is a passion and a thrill for me. Having studied art and art history I understand the enormous potential within in an image to create an expressive narrative. I always want to make my pictures as intimate, emotive and as infused with character as possible so that I can tell a visual story.
I have been using a film camera for 20 years which has helped arm me with a very instinctual and natural approach to how I compose and consider each picture I take. Although I now work primarily with a digital camera, I still use film and am always happy to offer this as part of my service. Film is where my true heart lies.
If I’m taking your picture my first job is always to make sure that you are comfortable and relaxed to bring your personality to the forefront. I always shoot on location and adore the magical surprises that can come with harnessing natural light.
I also delve into the gorgeous art of pinhole photography which I am very happy to answer questions about. I built my camera from scratch and am very pleased with the high quality of images she produces.
Apart from my cameras, I also love: Snoopy, Simon & Garfunkel, Queen, Stephen King, Dory Previn, Egon Schiele, Aubrey Beardsley, Ray Bradbury, Man on Wire, Captain Jean-Luc Picard, cheese, dark chocolate, drinking milk, drinking cider, growing food, orange circles, patterns, fractals, plucking my guitar, folding origami tsurus.
I’m terrified of: heights, job interviews, flying, and spiders.
By day I’m a librarian at the glorious BFI.
I live in London.
